Kivirinne on nimensä mukaisesti kallion päällä rinteessä, jota ympäröi metsä ja alhaalla järvi. Rantaan pääsy on ollut lievästi sanottuna haastava kalliokiipeily, mutta eipä ole enää! Mökin takaovelta alkaa nyt neliosainen, 33:n askelman portaikko alas metsään. Portaikko on ankkuroitu upeaan vaaleanpunertavaan graniittiin, joka löytyi sammaleen alta projektin alussa. Projektissa olikin mukana vähän kaikenlaista: maisemointia, kiviporausta, sementointia, puutöitä, sahausta, trigonometriaa ja sadetta -jostain syystä olimme paikalla aina sadakuurojen aikaan. Mutta työ oli kaiken vaivan arvoinen, nyt metsään ja erityisesti rantaan pääsee helposti ja mukavasti!
Järvessä on nyt myös laituri, joka tulikin tarpeeseen kesähelteillä useaan kertaan. Pieni järvi on ihanan raikas ja syvä ja siellä kelpaa käydä virkistäytymässä.
Metsä ja järvi olivat ennen kuin eri osa mökistä, mutta portaikon myötä ne ovat nyt kaikki samaa “ulkotilaa”. Enää ei tarvitse vain ihailla järveä kaukaa, nyt sinne pääsee myös pulahtamaan -tämä olikin kesän tärkein tavoite: yhdistää mökki ja järvi. Ensi keväänä luvassa on lisää metsätöitä, mutta nyt pihatyöt on tehty vuodelta 2023 ja on aika siirtyä sisähommiin.

Kivirinne sits on top of a hill with steep slopes down to the surrounding forest and lake. To get to the forest has been a bit of a climbing exercise, but not anymore! We have now completed the construction of a 4 tier, 33 step staircase from the back door of the cabin down to the forest floor. Kivirinne (‘Stoney Slope’) really lived up to its name; during spring when we cleared the area to start the framing we found huge pink granite which has provided a super strong base. This project had a bit of everything: landscaping, drilling, concreting, woodwork, sawing, trigonometry and so much rain, our work always seemed to coincide the rain showers! But it was definitely worth it.
We now also have a jetty in the lake from which we have been swimming many times this summer – the water is wonderfully fresh and deep.
The forest and the lake used to feel detached from the cabin, so improving the access to the forest and allowing swimming from our shoreline was very high on our priorities this year, we’re really happy to have both ready. Next spring we’ll kick on with some more forestry work, but for now that’s the outside projects done for 2023.
