Himoksen hiihtokausi päättyi virallisesti tässä kuussa – rinteet ovat kiinni! Kivirinteen mökillä oli kiireinen kausi – mökki oli varattu joka viikonloppu joulusta pääsiäiseen, suuret kiitokset kaikille yöpyneille ja lisäkiitos heille, jotka jaksoivat kirjoittaa arvostelun.

Toukokuun ajaksi olemme sulkeneet mökin varauskalenterin aloittaaksemme joitain projekteja metsässä. Tänä kesänä keskitymme saamaan mökin edessä olevan metsäalueen helppokulkuisemmaksi ja avaamaan puihin raon, jotta järvi ja ranta näkyvät talosta. Olemme jo kaataneet useita puita metsäaukon luomiseksi, jotta aamuaurinko paistaa metsän kerrokseen ja mökkiin. Haluamme parantaa puiden ja metsäeläinten monimuotoisuutta samalla kun luomme "hengitystilaa" mökin ympärille. Työ on ollut kovaa toistaiseksi, mutta olemme tykänneet viettää pitkiä työtunteja metsässä, olemme nähneet paljon lintuelämää ja yllätykseksemme myös hirven jätöksiä!

Ski season in Himos officially ended this month – slopes are closed! Kivirinne cabin had a busy season – booked every weekend from Christmas to Easter, many thanks to all who stayed and an extra thanks to those who took the time to write a review.

During May we have shut down the cabin to start some projects in the forest. This summer we are concentrating on making the forest area in front of the cabin accessible and opening a gap in the trees so the lake can be seen from the house. We have already cut down a number of trees to create a forest glade to allow the morning sun to shine on the forest floor and the cabin. We hope to improve the diversity of the trees and forest fauna at the same time as creating some ‘breathing’ space around the cabin. It has been hard work so far but we have loved spending long hours working in the forest, we have seen lots of bird life and to our surprise some moose scat!
