Buying Kivirinne

“…it has no tv reception, small beds, a weird fold away wall, and way too many trees that block the lake view.” These were some of the issues we were contemplating after viewing Kivirinne for the first time in late August 2022, but less than four weeks later we were collecting the keys to our own holiday cabin! There was too much potential about the place for us to pass: nice big kitchen, spacious utility room and sauna/toilet area, large area upstairs, its own mini forest plot with lake shore, and in theory a great view of that lake from the living room windows.

Winter is coming so any large renovation projects will have to wait until spring (which includes replacing that folding wall…). Since completing the purchase we have been concentrating on updating and rearranging the furnishings, ensuring each bedroom has a good sized comfortable bed with night stand and light, equipping the kitchen, installing 5G WiFi, and replacing the TV aerial. In some areas the cottage itself is a little bit worn, so we agreed with the agent to drop the rental prices for this season. Now more than ever during this cost of living crises we all deserve to get value for our money.

We love to go skiing in Himos with our two kids, but were so fed up with staying in expensive, poorly equipped cottages with broken furniture. After many ‘after ski’ inspired conversations about how we would set up a cottage, we are happy to be putting plans into action. We want this cottage to be a comfortable, functional, family friendly space. It also needs to have modern amenities – the new 5G WiFi is included in the rental price and we have added a workspace upstairs for those of us who wish to work or study remotely with a view over the forest canopy.

Kivirinne is on a surprisingly large plot, lots of trees and 100m of shoreline, its just a bit wild at the moment with no proper path running through it. Now the house is ready for rentals we’ll try to do something about that before the winter sets in proper. At least try to get that lake view from the living room….
